Should You Buy FCS or Future Fins?
Should you buy FCS or Future Fins on your next surfboard? This has been a long debated question since Future Fins came on to the surfboard fins market becoming FCS’ main rival.
Well let us break it down, compare these two types of surfboard fins and answer this question once and for all.
Lets first look at the pros and cons of FCS fins…
FCS’ selection of fins is huge!…. From fins for the groms and girls to fins for the bigger heavier surfers. FCS offers over 50 different fin models designed in 4 different materials. You will definitely fin an FCS fin for you.
FCS fins is also backed by the largest number of professional shapers and surfers in the industry. These include renowned shapers like Rusty Preisendorfer, Matt Biolos, Al Merrick, Darren Handley, as well as professional surfers Kelly Slater, Mark Occhilupo, Sunny Garcia and Tom Carroll. The top names in the surf industry love them!
However many surfers have claimed that their FCS fin plugs have been ripped out of their surfboard. This usually happens when a surfer is coming to shore and whacks them on the reef or sand. This is regardless of FCS’ claim that their fins snap at the tabs when a strong enough pressure is applied to the fins leaving the fin plug and surfboard undamaged.
None the less FCS newest fin plug, the FCS Fusion fin plug, is meant to reduce straight line shearing of the fiberglass as compared to straight long fin boxes like those used by Future Fins
Now lets look at the pros and cons of Future Fins….
Future Fins only have 1 fin screw. This makes them easier and faster to install than FCS fins.
Secondly Future Fins also slot into the fin box making them a more snug and secure choice of removable fin system as compare to FCS fin tabs.
Future Fins have also developed the widest range of unique fin foil patterns. They have also created an innovative combined fin material loved by many surfers known as Black Stix, creating a one of a kind fin flex.
However Future Fins just haven’t been taken up by the majority of shapers and surfers, with most surfboards being manufactured with the FCS fin system installed.
If a surfer walks into a surf shop and wants to buy a surfboard off the rack he may just not be able to find the surfboard he wants with Future Fin fin boxes.
That means that if you really want em you might just have to custom order em!
So whats the final verdict in the Future Fins vs FCS debate?
We say FCS fins win!
With their experience in the surfboard fin industry and wide selection of surfboard fins they take the cake.
And plus Kelly Slater swears by them!!!..K3s anyone??
Enough said!
